We Become The Company That We Keep

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Jim Rohn

The people we surround ourselves with play a huge factor in our behaviours, attitudes and results. They impact what we think, say, do and ultimately who we become which sets the course of one’s life.

The people we spend the majority of our time with shape who we are. They influence our conversations. They impact which attitudes and behaviours come to light. Consequently, you will begin to think as they do and behave as they do.

“… the people you habitually associate with determine as much as 95 percent of your success or failure in life.” That is a large percentage!

Darren Hardy in The Compound Effect

The vision that you may have for your life may be bigger than the current environment in which you find yourself. So you have to “get out” of that environment in order to see the vision that you have for your life become real.

For example, if you spend most of your time with negative people, how do you expect to have a positive life? Also, if you do all the right things, but do not surround yourself with the right type of people who can hold you to a high standard (keep you accountable), then you may also fail.

The main principle here is to be intentional about how you form your social environment, it should not be left to “chance”, but rather it is important to plan which ideas, attitudes and philosophies that you do and do not want to enter into your life.
